Sunome Puzzles was founded by Adam Bontrager in 2022 with the release of the original puzzle named Sunome, which is an abbreviation of the Japanese phrase suji no meiro meaning digit maze. What was initially intended as a one-off product eventually became a line of puzzles and a puzzle company named after that first puzzle.

One of the major design philosophies at Sunome Puzzles is that all our puzzles are made by hand; no AI or generative puzzle programs are used. Human-made puzzles for humans.

In 2023, Sunome Puzzles opened the Sunome line of puzzles to licensing and began partnering with global brands to bring Sunome into different marketplaces.
